The faster-than-inflation rise in grocery prices here in South Africa is getting more media attention these days. Many theories explain why supermarket prices are so high; the most accepted being the complex supply chain with all the middle men.

This doesn’t really hold much water though. If this was the case, then non-supermarket bought goods (if you could get such things) would be significantly cheaper. Someone, somewhere is dictating who can sell to who and at what price.

Equality isn’t always equal

It must be difficult being an American right now. So much strife in the land of opportunity and freedom. Decisions on equality and the right to have an opinion; and perhaps the right to use that opinion forcibly on others.

Even if the understanding of equality boils down to interpretation of words, surely it isn’t the same if it’s not the same?

At it’s core, marriage is a contract; and a contract is the same regardless of who looks at it. Religious interpretation of a contract should really be something between the individual and the church (which is why we choose or are born into a particular religion).

‘Marriage’ is so 20th century anyway regardless of who you sleep with. Way to go Civil Unions!
